The assessment model within the Academy focuses on a Progressive Model of Improvement.
As a school we have moved away from giving isolated levels or grades, instead focusing on giving great feedback and communicating progress. We want to focus on the Growth Mindset of students, the students' journey and informing them of progress made through their secondary school experience.
Summative data is collected throughout the year to prepare students for the challenging demands of the examinations required by GCSE and A Level courses.
To achieve this we do the following:
Key Points for Parents with GCSE’s
Working at Grades (WAG’s)
Working at Grades show the level a student is currently performing at in a subject during their GCSE’s.
They are not predicted grades and not final GCSE outcomes, they reflect how well a student is working right now based on classwork, assessments, homework and teacher judgements. Our goal with Working at Grades (WAG’s) is to spot patterns, plan support and raise ambition. We use our WAG’s to inform curriculum planning and adjusting for students progress.
Our aim is to ensure that WAG assessment judgements made by teachers at the Maritime Academy are accurate and reliable in the context of their point in time in their GCSE course. We use multiple data points, not a single test or score.
